Musings of the Restless Wanderer
Lofty Ambition
To be strong, yet ruled by gentle heart,
To bear burdens in silence, without complaint,
To hold courage unyielding against the dark,
Standing steadfast to weather all storms, fear and pain,
To ask seldom for succour, yet freely to give,
To be fierce in defence of those under my wing,
To seek never to govern how others should live,
But strive ever toward greater understanding.
To be selfless in love, to protect and provide,
To champion the cause of the lost and the weak,
To ever by honour unwav'ring abide,
And never for glory be tempted to seek,
To love peace and scorn war, yet to fight if I must;
To lust not after power, yet have strength fit to lead,
To place my needs last, and through perils go first,
And courage awaken in hearts of the meek.
Only this do I ask for myself; for this gift,
For this mast'ry of body and mind,
That my strength I may lend to the lives that I love,
And leave never another behind.
